Some weddings are beautiful. And then some weddings hit different because they’re not just about two people getting married, but about coming home. That’s exactly what Anna and Janó’s wedding in Nagymaros, Hungary felt like.
Photographing this day wasn’t just special, it was surreal. For me, this was the first wedding I ever photographed in my home country. Add in the fact that I’ve known Anna for years and had already captured their engagement session the year before… yeah, you could say it was personal.
Forget rigid schedules and back-to-back events. This wedding was the opposite of rushed in the best way. Anna and Janó’s timeline had six things on it. Six. That’s it. And the rest unfolded completely organically. The whole day moved with this relaxed, grounded rhythm that matched them perfectly. People were laughing, chatting, helping each other get ready, and actually enjoying the day instead of racing through it.
Anna and Janó’s story started at a house party, but they’d been orbiting each other for years. Both are tattoo artists in Budapest, and their circles had overlapped more than once, but it wasn’t until that night that things finally clicked. Fast forward to their wedding day, and every little moment felt like a love letter to the life they’ve built together: creative, unconventional, and full of meaning.
Easily one of the most memorable parts of the day was what would traditionally be cocktail hour. Instead… a pool party. We’re talking 80% of the guests changing into swimsuits, jumping in, lounging with drinks in hand, and fully embracing the moment. It was effortlessly cool, totally untraditional, and exactly the kind of thing that makes a wedding feel like an actual celebration, not a checklist.
It was swelteringly hot, and the pool gave everyone space to cool off, relax, and come back to dinner feeling connected and refreshed. Honestly, it was one of the most joyfully unstructured, “this-is-what-life’s-about” things I’ve ever photographed at a wedding.
They started the day slow, surrounded by close friends and a gentle buzz of excitement. Guests arrived mid-afternoon for drinks and greetings before a heartfelt ceremony and a round of touching (and hilarious) speeches. Then came photos, the now-iconic pool party, and an intimate dinner where people lingered over every bite and conversation. Cake, late-night bites, and even more dancing followed. It was the kind of day you wish you could bottle up and revisit.
